Coffee lovers in Chicago’s western suburbs have several new spots to explore this year, with everything from commuter-friendly espresso stands to drive-thru chains and specialty coffee shops opening across the area. Whether you’re grabbing a quick cup on your way to the train or looking for a new café to try on the weekend, here are a few of the newest coffee destinations popping up in Wheaton, Oak Brook, and Bloomingdale.
Platform Coffee – Wheaton
A convenient new stop for morning commuters, Platform Coffee recently opened at the College Avenue Metra station in Wheaton. Located right along the platform at the busy stop on the Union Pacific West line, the small coffee stand is designed for quick grab-and-go service. Early risers can pick up freshly brewed coffee and simple breakfast options before catching the train into the city.
The stand brings coffee service back to the station after several years without a vendor, making it a welcome addition for daily riders and anyone passing through downtown Wheaton in the morning.
Summer Moon Coffee – Wheaton
Another recent addition to Wheaton’s coffee scene is Summer Moon Coffee, a Texas-based chain known for its unique roasting process. The brand roasts its beans over oak wood instead of gas or electric heat, a method that gives the coffee a smoother, slightly smoky flavor.
One of the shop’s most popular menu items is the “Moon Milk” latte, a sweet cream-based drink that has become a signature for the brand. The Wheaton location recently celebrated its grand opening and adds a new specialty coffee option for residents on the city’s south side.
Blue Bottle Coffee – Oak Brook
A major name in the specialty coffee world is also expanding to the western suburbs. Blue Bottle Coffee, the San-Francisco-based roaster known for its minimalist cafés and meticulously crafted espresso drinks, is planning a location at Oakbrook Center.
The café will bring a third-wave coffee experience to the mall area, focusing on high-quality beans, pour-over brewing, and carefully prepared espresso drinks. Once open, it will be one of only a handful of Blue Bottle locations in Illinois.
7 Brew Coffee – Bloomingdale
Drive-thru coffee is also booming in the suburbs, and 7 Brew Coffee is part of that trend. The fast-growing chain is opening a location on Gary Avenue in Bloomingdale, bringing its quick-service model and highly customizable drinks to the area.
Unlike traditional cafés, 7 Brew focuses almost entirely on drive-thru service, with a menu that includes flavored lattes, cold brews, teas, and energy drink blends. The brand is known for offering hundreds of possible drink combinations and fast service designed to get customers their coffee in just a few minutes.
A Growing Coffee Scene in the Western Suburbs
From commuter coffee stands to national specialty brands, the western suburbs are seeing a noticeable expansion in coffee options. Wheaton in particular has welcomed multiple new cafés in a short time, while nearby communities like Oak Brook and Bloomingdale are attracting larger regional and national chains.
For coffee fans, it means more choices—and more reasons to explore the local café scene across the suburbs.
