Free Things to Do This Month in Chicago's Western Suburbs

Looking for ways to enjoy summer without spending a fortune? The western suburbs are full of free concerts, movies, festivals, and outdoor activities that make it easy to have fun while sticking to your budget. Whether you're planning a family outing, a date night, or simply looking to get outside, here are some of our favorite free events happening this month.

1. Wheaton Municipal Band Concerts

One of Wheaton's favorite summer traditions is back! Pack a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy an evening of live music at Memorial Park. The Wheaton Municipal Band performs a wide variety of patriotic favorites, Broadway hits, movie themes, and classic concert band music. Concerts are held on Thursday evenings throughout the summer and are perfect for all ages.

2. Movies in the Park at Memorial Park

The Downtown Wheaton Association and Wheaton Public Library present "Movies Under the Stars."  Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to the Wheaton Public Library's West Plaza for these FREE family-friendly movie showings. They'll play Zootopia on 7/17 and Lilo and Stitch on 8/7. Show begins at 8pm!

3. Explore Cantigny Park

While parking has a fee, admission to Cantigny Park is free, making it an affordable family outing. Walk through the beautiful gardens, explore the tanks outside the First Division Museum, let the kids burn off energy at the playground, or enjoy one of the free outdoor concerts and community events offered throughout the summer. Parking on weekdays is just $6!

4. Cosley Zoo

Admission to Cosley Zoo is free year-round for Wheaton residents. Families can visit farm animals, native Illinois wildlife, and beautiful gardens while enjoying one of Wheaton's hidden gems.

5. A Night of Moves Downtown Naperville

Join the Naperville Park District outdoors for a fun and free Friday night kick-off to the weekend featuring family-friendly movies. Bring your own folding charis, a picnic, and a blanket for a cozy summer night. Homeward Bound plays on 7/31 at 7:30pm!
